The priestly could be said to be the part which gets the initial revelation; the prophet, then interprets or translates this revelation; the king, then applies or implements it on earth in practical ways. 

Samuel was priest and prophet.

David did all three.

Daniel also moved in elements of all three. Confessing the sins of his people, then having intense visions, and then helping implement based on the wisdom from these visions.
