Studying my favorite gospel telling of the great story of Jesus, by St John this morning—the friend of Jesus who knew more of His biography than most, and could quote John the Baptist, as an eye witness—impressive. Today got these commentaries by William Barclay which will fill out my series.
But, this warning was on the back cover, which felt very ironic and funny, given the fact that this gospel asks us to become born again like spiritual kids, in order to understand and enter The spiritual Kingdom-that child like faith in His Grace is the key to eternal life. The orange warning also seems a bit legalistic to me—what if I did separate this set, would i lose my understanding of this gospel? Here is the mystic writer, who simultaneously talks, throughout his writings, tenderly and simply as a parent to children, to all those who want to approach and grow up into friendship with Jesus, calling us children of God.
You would think you wouldn’t want to keep this one away from children-especially small ones! It’s little things in life which keep me laughing! I realize it was probably more about the plastic than the gospel, but it still made me laugh! Needed that.
